Tranquility6487 is our May CosVisionary

Tell us a little about your cosplay life, and what it means to you?

I have been an anime fan for a pretty long time, but I first found out about cosplay online in 2002. I am a shy person so I didn't think that cosplay was something I would be able to get into... but my friend Kaori-chan and I started talking about how fun it would be to dress up as Utena and Anthy.. and soon after that, we made our first costumes and became hooked.
Cosplay to me is mostly a creative hobby to enjoy with my friends. It started out as just K-chan and I working together, but now alot more of our friends are getting into it too and going to conventions with us. Even if it is nerdy, it's still lots of fun to work on costumes and attempt to make the characters come to life with your own skills.

Anthy Himemiya from Shoujo Kakumei Utena:
This was my first cosplay. Kaori-chan introduced me to the Utena anime then and it is still one of my favorites. Anthy is the character in the series most similar to me..I'm not sure if that is a good or a bad thing..haha. We worked together to make our costumes and props..she even made the Chu Chu plushie. The dress is very full and fun to wear. The epaulettes, earrings, and brooch were fun to make. I styled and dyed the wig and as you can see, the dying part didn't turn out too well. Overall though, I love this costume..It is fun for us to be Anthy and Utena at cons.

Miho Tohya from Megatokyo:
Megatokyo is a good webcomic to read and since there isn't that many MT cosplayers, Kaori and I decided to dress as Miho and Ping. I like Miho alot..she is mysterious and has cool style. This outfit of Miho's is pretty simple so I tried to make sure I got the details right like her necklace and hairstyle. I had fun styling the wig..I had to cut it, layer it in the back, and add the ribbons like hers. The skirt has interfacing in it, so it sticks out the same way Miho's falls. I have to wear pale powder and alot of eye makeup for this costume, which gets annoying. The dress and boots are comfortable to wear though. (^_^)

Gerudo Thief from Zelda Ocarina of Time:
Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of my favorite videogames and I always liked the Gerudos..so when we wanted to do a Zelda group I chose to be a Gerudo thief with Hanamaru as Saria and Kaori-chan as Zelda. This costume was the most fun costume I've made so far. The pants were tricky to do and making all of the accessories was a bit tedious. I love working with sculpey clay, so I used it for the jewelry, armor details, and hilts on the swords. I attempted to make the armor guards several times and finally ended up altering soccer shin guards..so they actually are functioning "armor"..sorta. I cut bangs and styled the wig into a high ponytail. I like how this costume turned out alot and wish that there was more Gerudo cosplayers..and Ganondorfs. lol.

Tenten from Naruto:
Tenten is my favorite female character from Naruto. This was my easiest costume to make and wear so it was a nice break. We made our own headbands and I could actually use my own hair. The top and pants were pretty simple. I sewed the shoe covers and superglued them to sandles and made the soushouryu scrolls out of pieces of my brother's shelves from his room. (^_^'

Orochimaru from Naruto:
I love Orochimaru. He is my favorite villian and this is my favorite costume to wear. I made it for an Orochi/ Kabuto/ Sound Four/ cursed seal Sasuke group with my friends. I helped to make some of their costumes too. We worked together on the tunics, which were all pretty much the same to make, so it was easy for us to get used to the pattern and adding the waistbands and flaps after we made one. I made alot of shoe covers for ninja sandles and made most of the bow obi belts. The belts were the hardest thing to figure out and make and required tons of fabric, wire, and stuffing. I made my earrings and a bandaged glove for my hand. I drew the summoning tattoo and painted my arm purple like his "dead" arms since I hadn't seen anyone do that before. I could use my own hair for this costume too so I was happy. Hehe. I love wearing this costume and being a part of our group.
