Convention Report for Anime LA 2007
written
by Master Jedi
The third Annual Anime LA turned out to be, a pretty good
convention. With more and more registered fans, there was
plenty of action to go around. Just as last year, the
convention was located at the Airtel Plaza Hotel, which
was conveniently at the same place as the con. This was
filled with several room parties and a easy way for the
tired cosplayers to go get some sleep in their rooms close
by.
As
with every convention there were some positive and
negative points.
Some
of the positive points included, More convention room
space at the hotel, The Opening Ceremonies, Con Suite- a
place for registered fans to get snacks or drinks, The
costume repair shop, dealer room, video game room with
multiple systems, a 24 hour video anime room, a Pirate rum
party (which was a official event) with pirate auction and
belly dancing, a AMV contest, Karaoke, a dance and of
course panels. A schedule of all the events, gatherings
and locations was conveniently printed out by the
convention, which really helped the fans find what they
were looking for, and we were able to set up our photo
studio in the hotel, which had beautiful settings and
environments, great for photo shoots – one of the best
locations for photos in our opinion and from what we’ve
heard. The Hotel itself was great and the employee’s
friendly,
Some
of the negative points regarding the convention included
the most famous of all - Con security. Security at this
con was harsh, worst than last year. Attendees were
stopped all over the place to show their badges, display
their badges, move to a different place to talk or take a
/their picture. Sometimes such action was just plain rude
and harassment in our opinion. No stopping and No picture
taking zones were set up throughout the con. It seemed
that such things only seemed to aggravate most people and
take the fun out of the con. A well known photographer was
even told to leave the con for taking a picture where he
was not allowed to! Another negative about the convention
was photographing the Masquerade; We at Consplayers could
NOT get in easily to take pics. Photographers had to apply
for photographer seating.
Infact, I was not allowed to get in the room even
though I had a staff badge (because I was working the Rum
Party).
Overall
the Convention was fun; the hotel was an excellent
location to host the convention, the staffs for the hotel
and some for the convention were both nice and friendly.
These points made Anime Los Angeles 2007 a fun convention
to attend.
