Convention Report for Animethon 14
written by Sai Hashimoto

Animethon 14 was a nice sized con that was held from Friday the 10th till Sunday the 12th at the Grant MacEwan College. A surprising amount of people showed in great costumes, which is always a treat at any convention. There were awesome guests, great staff, and a nice food court inside the convention!

The Dealers room was nice and spacious, held down in the garage once again. There were many dealers selling from small anime goods, to full fledged costumes. The Artist Alley also had a delightful amount of artists selling their own creations. Events were held in classrooms, which allowed a great set up for presentations. Main Events was held in the gym. Stadium seating provided a nice view of the stage, which was great for the Masquerade.

People stayed this time inside the dormitories, which is probably the only complaint. The normal rooms were like prison cells almost with concrete floors and walls, small twin sized beds with mattresses that were hard. The Guest rooms had a bit more luxury with carpet, a television, and a refrigerator which the normal rooms lacked. However, seeing how it was a dormitory, you can’t complain much. School rooms generally always are like jail cells anyway. Convenient location, not that good for comfort.

Overall this is a very good con and attendance to next year is likely. Animethon 14 was fun, exciting, and had a lot going on. It’s a pleasant medium-sized con which is friendly for anyone.
