Convention Report for XXVIII Convención de Juegos de Mesa y Comcis
written by Pikmin Link

This was our first convention or trip to Mexico. We were really excited from what we heard and saw from photos we were really looking forward to going. Our flight left pretty early in the morning on Thursday but this was the first time we went to a con by plane, so we needed to figure out how our equipment, and costume props were going to be transported. The flight didn't take very long, but we had to switch planes in Houston, TX. Once we arrived to MTY airport in Monterrey Mexico, we gathered our bags and headed out to the main meeting area where we were supposed to be meeting someone from the convention to give us a ride to the hotel. Well after waiting for two hours, we figured either the person came early and missed us, or they didn't arrive yet. It was a bit difficult getting around to ask questions when everyone spoke mostly just Spanish. One of the airport taxi service guy really wanted to help us get a taxi. I knew the name of the hotel and the area we needed to go to so that helped a lot. He called up the hotel to check everything is alright, and called a taxi for us. When the taxi arrived, I was shocked. It was luxurious. leather seats, polished wood control area. It was very nice. The drive to the hotel seemed about 30mins. But it was a nice drive. I started to recognize Fundidoria Park, so I knew we were getting close. Once we arrived to the hotel, I was amazed at how beautiful the area was. The hotel looked like one from Las Vegas. Really nice and fancied out. The convention center was right across the street. and you have to go over a walkway bridge to get there.

We met Faustino in the hotel lobby. later after Alejandra greeted us with flowers. It was great meeting the both of them, and we thank them for inviting us to their convention!

The next day was the day of the convention. It didn't start till 4pm though. So we decided to go check out the convention building. when we got near the dealer room entrance we saw huge posters of the guests hanging from above! We then found Faustino again, and he showed us where our studio photo booth will be set up. I got into my howl costume, and my mom and dad from consplayers and I walked over to Fundidoria Part to get photos of Howl in such a perfect location. I had to quickly hurry back to the hotel after my photo shoot to get ready for the convention.  I got into my Squall costume. And we were supposed to meet Roberto, who was going to escort us to the convention.  We were not allowed to walk around the convention without escorts. The convention was very crowded so it would have been difficult to get from one place to another. They took very good care of us.

Saturday morning started with the Zelda gathering. We got many great pictures taken in the park of the different zelda cosplayers. Not long after there was the Iron Cosplay. This is what Iron cosplay should be like! It was completely different, and so much better than anywhere else I've seen iron cosplay. We got many photos of all the events
. Right after iron cosplay, it was the Yuna look alike contest. The entries were really good. Each one of them did a great job on their costumes.

The Cosplay contest was quite a show! The opening was amazing. It cant be explained. Please check out the photos! The convention really did a good job at starting the contest. First there were the single walk-on entries, then the skits. Both were enjoyable to watch. After the contest, it was time to say goodbye.

Overall the Convention was a great success. The photo booth was doing really well we never got this many pictures of cosplayers in our booth as we did here. The location was great! The hotel was beautiful, and having a huge park filled with many different photo opportunities was perfect! The convention staff were very friendly, and treated us very nicely. I had such a great time. I would love to go to this convention again! It was such a great out of country con experience. And it was very different, but in a very good way. If you are looking for a convention in Mexico to attend, check out this convention!
