Convention Report for SiliCon 2007

This year as always, SiliCon 2007 was held in the Double Tree Hotel in San Jose California, a hotel with a long and great reputation for holding conventions.
SiliCon is mostly known as a Sci-fi convention, but there was more to see there for us than just sci-fi. Infant every themed costume and act pretty much seemed to fit in, from Pirates to Anime and everyone was there to have fun.
The convention was an all weekend con starting on Friday and closing on late Sunday, we decided to go on Saturday as this is usually the biggest day and has the most amounts of people. This year SiliCon was especially fun. They had a great collection of Sci-Fi and fantasy props and collectables used in the movies brought from all around and was on display. Also at Silicon was the Dealers Hall, Art tables, Belly Dancers, movie rooms, panel rooms and even a special effects make-up panel. There was plenty to see and do, not to mention all the fans who show up year after year in costume. In the evening after the belly dance the Masquerade was about to happen. This year I entered the masquerade as a Dalek from the Sci-Fi show Dr. Who and ended up winning second place! Right after the masquerade there was the first annual Hallow-Whedon masquerade ball which started around 9pm and lasted into the late night, sort of a fun way to pass the time while the judges decide who wins the masquerade. Silicon is also known to have a reputation for throwing wild and fun room parties. One of which is the well know “Black Hole”. A bar of sorts put on by hardcore fans dressed as Klingons, and Klingons know how to put on a party!
In our opinion Silicon was a great and fun convention. It was held at a good location with close by food and great photo spot locations. It was a fun convention with a nice variety of different themes of sci-fi and fantasy to Anime. These points make it a good convention to attend.
